Société Mai takes its name from the artist collective and literary journal founded by 김우진 Kim U-Jin (1897–1926), a playwright, dramaturg, and poet active during Korea’s early colonial era. For Kim U-Jin, creative expression was inseparable from 생명/élan vital — an essential life force — the practice of insisting on life itself against forces of erasure, and the inextinguishable sovereignty of the inner life.

인연 (karmic connection) is the thread that tethers HK Park to this ancestral lineage. Her practice — video poems, site-specific video installations, and writing — is rooted in the same understanding: that creativity is life force, a liberation rooted in the sacred. Each work is an attempt to translate spirit, relatedness, and felt experience into form, to give voice to diasporic intimacies and to pass forward the heirlooms of healing and wisdom carried across generations and geography.
